This weeks pattern review is from my cousin and good friend Meredith. Meredith has a talent for taking a little bit of this and a little bit of that and creating something entirely beautiful and new (kind of the opposite to me who often takes something entirely new and ends up with a little bit of this and a little bit of that!). Meredith was keen however to sew from a pattern for a change - and as you can see the result is fabulous :)

Pattern: Kristen Doran Sling Bag pattern

Fabric: Yardage Design Agapantha print, with Echino solid purple for the base.

I loved making this Kristen Doran sling bag, it is a really easy project, but completed it looks fantastic with a really professional finish.  I haven't sewed a pattern for ages so this was just the project to renew my enthusiasm. The pattern was really quick and easy, a doddle even for a beginner.

I thought that the lining would test me, but it is very simple (really, and that is saying something coming from me). The whole project took me an hour and a half, but a more practiced and skilled seamstress could easily do it in less.

I have used a narrower bias binding than specified in the pattern, which made it a bit more fiddly, but not too much.  I just prefer the look, and I didn't use contrasting top-stitching for the same reason.
The linen/cotton blend of the Yardage Design Agapantha and the Echino Purple Solid is a perfect weight for this sling bag.  I've used calico for the lining and have lots left over which is great because now I want to make one in a whole host of different colourways, they would be a great birthday gift for friends.
I had a satisfying and fun afternoon completing this project, and would highly recommend this pattern and the fabric to anyone, no matter their skill level.

Thanks Meredith!!
